When you connect another person in Amunta, you can choose A-Link or A-Link+. Both modes share transactions between two ledgers. The difference is how they handle transactions that create or change a debt.
What does A-Link do?
A-Link sends a shared transaction to the connected person, so both people do not have to enter the same transaction separately. The receiving ledger does not wait for a new approval each time a debt transaction arrives.
This mode suits people who want quick sharing and trust the transactions they send to each other.
What does A-Link+ add?
A-Link+ requires both people to approve transactions that create a debt or change its balance. If one person records a new debt or a repayment, the transaction stays pending until the other person accepts it.
Amunta also compares the debt balance on both phones so it can detect a difference between the two ledgers.
- Creating or changing a debt requires approval from both people.
- The other person sees the transaction before accepting it.
- Amunta checks that both phones show the same debt balance.
- One person cannot remove an approved debt transaction from both ledgers.
Does every transaction need approval?
No. Approval applies to transactions that affect a debt. A transaction that creates no debt, such as a cash invoice or a gift, does not wait for the other person's approval.
Why is the feature labelled “Experimental”?
The label is a precaution because connecting two phones can reveal situations that were not anticipated earlier. Every issue discovered so far has been addressed; the label does not mean that a known problem is being left unresolved.
What does the relay server do?
Your phone encrypts the transaction before sending it, so the relay cannot read its amount or details. The relay only passes the encrypted message to the other phone.
After the receiving phone confirms that it processed the message successfully, the relay deletes it permanently. If delivery does not complete, the message expires automatically after 24 hours. The relay therefore keeps neither a permanent transaction history nor a copy of your ledger.
Does A-Link need the internet all the time?
No. A-Link and A-Link+ need a connection only while sending or receiving shared transactions. Recording expenses, reading your ledger, and the other core features continue to work offline.
Is A-Link+ the same as Amunta+?
No. A-Link+ is a connection mode for two people. Amunta+ is the app edition that adds multiple funds and transfers between them. They are separate features.
Which mode should you choose?
Choose A-Link for fast sharing without approval for every debt change. Choose A-Link+ when both people should approve debt changes and keep matching balances. If you do not need sharing, you can use Amunta without enabling either mode.
How do you start linking?
- Each person enables their network ID in the connection settings.
- They exchange IDs and choose either A-Link or A-Link+.
- One person sends the connection request and the other accepts it. New shared transactions then arrive according to the selected mode.
If both phones are in the same place and you prefer not to use the internet, you can transfer one transaction or invoice through a signed QR code instead of creating an ongoing connection.
